FAQ
What will a new roof system cost?
Hard to determine as every house and roof system is different from one to another, at RDR we offer free no obligation estimates and can go over all your available options as well as any cost saving ideas.
How do I know when my roof needs to be replaced or repaired?
Some of the obvious signs are:
- Granule loss
- Buckling and blistering
- Cracks and tears
- Water ingress
- Shingles curling or lifting up
How long can I expect my roof system to last?
Depending on the quality of the install and the materials used, we are seeing roofs last anywhere from 10 to 50 years. Generally we are installing “lifetime” system warranties on our sloped asphalt shingle projects and 15-20 year “manufacturer” system warranties on our flat roofs.
My house has a flat roof. What is the best roof system for a flat roof?
SBS torch on is generally the best system to go with on our flat roofing projects
My roof leaks. Do I need to have it replaced completely?
No, not necessarily, most roofs can be repaired.
Can I install a new roof over top of my old shingle roof?
This is not a recommended practice, we always recommend to remove the old roof so the substrate can be inspected for any deficiencies and any other possible problems like condensation
Can I replace my roof in the winter?
Roofs can be replaced year round and only require dry weather.

If I replace my roof do I have to replace my gutters too?
Not necessarily, however, it is recommended as the gutter system is usually the same age as the roof or maybe even older, your gutter sealant may be worn out, maybe the building has settled and the gutters are no longer draining properly.
Do I need to get a permit before I replace my roof?
No, permits are not generally required.
Are you going to install drip edge or edge metal when you install the new roof?
Depending on the roof system chosen, drip edges are not uncommon to be installed on rake and eaves.
How will you protect my landscaping during this project?
Absolutely, we take great pride in protecting the surrounding building and landscaping. We want to ensure that our footprint left behind is as small as possible.
